A head-on collision between an SUV and a tractor-trailer has left four people dead. Authorities believe that the four were on their way to a family reunion for Thanksgiving when the accident occurred.
The SUV was driving along Interstate 55 in southeastern Missouri when the driver veered over the center line and into the path of the truck, according to a spokesman from the Highway Patrol.
The three victims were identified as Joseph Downs, 71, Betty Wimpie, 44, and Robert Thompson, 74, all residents of Milwaukee. Police have still not determined the identity of the driver.
The four occupants of the SUV were all pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries, according to a doctor.
According to authorities, the SUV could possibly have had a blowout just before the accident occurred. The four were on their way to a family reunion in Mississippi.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
