Two people are dead and four injured after three separate automobile crashes in Callaway County over the weekend.
Jeremy Knapp, 28, of Fulton, was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from his 1993 Chevrolet truck early Sunday morning.
The Fulton Police Department discovered the accident at 2:55 a.m. while on patrol.
According to an FPD press release, Knapp was traveling north on Highway 54 when his vehicle struck a bridge abutment and gaurdrail near the northern city limit. The truck left the roadway and was overturned. It was unclear whether anyone else was injured in the vehicle.
Sunday afternoon, Fulton resident Danielle Murphy, 27, was pronounced dead after being transported by the Staff for Life helicoptor to University Hospital in Columbia, following a head-on collision with Charles Ayers, 26, of Fulton.
Ayers was transported with serious injuries to University Hospital by Arch Air Ambulance.
Murphy's mother, Melody Murphy, 44, and sister, Kaitlin Murphy, 18, also were transported to University Hospital - with serious and moderate injuries respectively.
Melody Murphy was in critical condition and Kaitlin Murphy was in fair condition Monday afternoon. No information was available for Ayers. None of the drivers or passengers was wearing a seat belt.
The accident occurred at about 3:50 p.m. Sunday on State Route Z at State Route JJ.
According to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, the crash occured when Ayers' 2001 Chevrolet crossed the center line and struck Danielle Murphy's 2002 Dodge, sending Ayers' vehicle into the ditch and causing Murphy's automobile to block the roadway.
According to Trooper Dominic Carello, Murphy, her front-seat passenger and Ayers all had to be extricated from their cars.
Another Fulton woman was taken by helicopter to University Hospital after a Friday wreck that left her convertible overturned on Route C. The accident occurred at about 2:25 p.m. at Route C and Callaway County Road 418, just north of Hams Prairie.
Alice Taylor, 55, of Fulton, was northbound in her 1998 Chrysler Seabring convertible when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway. After striking a mailbox, the car traveled over an embankment and overturned.
A Central Callaway Fire Protection District officer at the scene Friday said the car appeared to have traveled downhill on its top for several yards before coming to rest in the middle of the roadway.
Taylor was reported as insured and wearing her safety belt, though she sustained serious injuries in the accident. She was taken by ambulance to the Callaway County Fairgrounds, where a Staff for Life helicopter arrived to shuttle Taylor on to University Hospital in Columbia.
No information on Taylor was available from the hospital on Saturday afternoon. It was unclear whether anyone else was injured as a result of the accident.
