An Imperial man has been indicted in St. Louis County for his role in a motor vehicle accident that killed a mother, her two children and her brother and sister last summer.
According to police, the man, Thomas Miskel, 43, was admitted to a psychiatric facility in south St. Louis County after threatening to harm himself at the time of his arrest Monday, February , 12.
Mr. Miskel has been charged with five counts of felony, involuntary manslaughter stemming from the July 28, 2005 accident that occurred near Six Flags on Interstate 44.
Police said that Mr. Miskel was driving a dump truck on I-44 when he rear-ended a minivan driven by Angela Huckaba, 30, of Overland.
Angela Huckaba was killed along with her sons Jacob, 9, and Joshua, 7, plus her sister, Amy Willingham, 18, and brother, Brett Willingham, 14, both of St. Charles.
The minivan was stopped in traffic near the Six Flags exit off I-44 when Mr. Miskel failed to stop. The minivan was pushed through a barrier fence and burst into flames.
Robert McCullough, the St. Louis County prosecuting attorney, said that while there was no evidence drugs or alcohol were involved or that Mr. Miskel was speeding, his actions while driving led to the deaths of five people and warrant criminal prosecution.
If convicted, Miskel faces a maximum of four years in prison for each of the five involuntary manslaughter charges he faces.
